Visit to the MLK Memorial in Atlanta, Georgia
This was a very interesting and thought provoking area to visit. There is so much history and emotion associated with this memorial and the struggles that surrounded our countries Civil Rights Movement. Going into the King Center and Ebenezer Baptist Church were truly memorable experiences and a reminder of the price paid by so many that we may enjoy the freedoms we have today. It is also a reminder of how far we still have to go in this country for everyone to equal rights. If you are ever in Atlanta, GA this is a must see!
Quick visit to Washing DC seeing the Capital on a ride around the city
I had not been back in the DC are for over 30 years and I had the opportunity to travel there on a day off from a nearby city - visit a relative and see some of the sights. I was very different to see our Nation's Capital with the increased police and security measures in place. While it is still an impressive sight i'm sadden to know that these steps were need to keep those who represent us safe. I did get to see and take a few pictures of the King Memorial before its official opening along with the workers repairing the Washington Monument. Our Nation's Capital is a wonder to behold.
Visit to Lincoln Museum and Home in Springfield, Illinois
Wow! What an interesting look at the past and the present. This is a really great place to learn more about Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War. I visited hear just before the last presidential election and was amazed and disappointed at some of the similarities in rhetoric surrounding the campaigns. Maybe we haven't progressed as much as I thought! While this presidential museum is not on the beat and path, it is well worth the time it takes get there if you are ever in the area. You might be surprised, like I was, at what you will see and learn. It makes the saying , "God Bless America" even more meaningful.
